Classified as a mid-size pickup truck, the Ford Explorer Sport Trac has a towing capacity of 3,500 pounds. The Explorer Sport Trac can get up to 15 MPG (miles per gallon) in the city and up to 21 MPG on the highway and has a bed length of 49.2″. This pickup truck is available with either a 5-speed automatic transmission or a 6-speed automatic transmission. It comes with either a 4.0 L V6 or 4.6 L V8 engine. The pickup truck is available in two different configurations, including XLT and Limited. It was sold between the years of 2000 and 2010. During the Explorer Sport Trac's first year of sales, there was over a three month waiting list for the model. The Sport Trac has competed with the Chevrolet Avalanche and Honda Ridgeline and has a Gross vehicle weight rating GVWR of 6250 pounds and a Gross combined weight rating GCWR of 12,000 pounds. The truck is still considered an SUV style with a pickup bed out back that offers four feet of cargo space. This cargo bed has a watertight, lockable tonneau. Even though the four-foot bed limits the truck's usefulness, the Sport Trac is a decent light-duty compromise and offers the only V-8 engine option in its class.
