The crossover SUV features three rows, allowing room for up to 7 passengers to sit comfortably. The SUV slots above the Mercedes-Benz M-Class in the 3rd row lineup and is the flagship of the Mercedes-Benz SUV line. The GL shares the same unibody architecture with the M-Class. Motor Trend awarded the GLS-Class with SUV of the Year twice. The Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class has been in production since 2006 and according to the manufacturer, it is the SUV equivalent of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class. The SUV was formerly known as the Mercedes-Benz GL-Class. The GLS shares the same unibody architecture with the GLE-Class. Most GLS-Class vehicles are assembled at the Mercedes plant in Alabama, except for a small number of early 2007 production vehicles which were manufactured in Germany.
