It wasn't until 2009 that North American markets began selling it, along with the European markets. In Japan, it is exclusive to Japanese Nissan dealerships called Nissan Red Stage locations. The Cube was in production until 2014 in the North American market, however, it lasted until December of 2019 in the Japanese market. When the Cube was introduced, it shared the same platform as the Nissan Micra (known as the March in Japan and Southeast Asia), as well as the same 1.3 L inline-four engine. A continuously variable transmission and four-wheel drive were optional.
