The car first made its debut in July of 2008 at the British International Motor Show. The sports car is based on the first all-new vehicle platform from Lotus Cars since the introduction of the Lotus Elise in 1995. It was planned to be the first vehicle of three to be built on the same platform, expanding the Lotus line up and going beyond its current track-specialized offerings, with the aim of being more of a practical road car that would appeal to the mainstream market.
