It was built by Subaru as a successor to the Outback Sport in the United States and Canada, and the Impreza XV internationally. The Subaru Crosstrek first made its debut as a concept vehicle in 2011 at Auto Shanghai. The production version was then unveiled that same year at the Frankfurt Motor Show. This model then went on sale in September of 2012 in Japan. It was introduced in the United States as the XV Crosstrek for the 2013 model year at the 2012 New York International Auto Show.
